During my time at Roll 7 I've worked on a project called "Athena" as a VFX artist and a Concept artist.
Athena is a platforming and combat oriented adventure game. Where the player explore a gigantic ruin of a ' babel tower' like city.
This are some of my VFX pre prod work on this project.
As the VFX artist I was tasked to create an interesting artstyle and direction for the VFX.
As we were building a very unique world and artstyle, I've tried to translate that into the VFX. I wanted them to be unique and very illustrative. I've played a lot with the shapes and colors to give VFX a fun weird and odd twist.
It all started by gathering references and putting them into an art bible to set up a direction. Then switching to 2d sketches and concept art to polish the idea.
When I was happy with the shapes and colors I've switched on some 2d VFX over some amazing 3D animations made by Aurelien Duhayon. It's a nice and fun way to explore the artstyle a bit more and to have a deeper exploration of the art direction.
